Crit Club
The crit club critique follows a 75 min format dedicated towards the works of a single host artist is as follows:
Cold Read: guests respond with adjectives, observations, references
Questions: guests ask open-ended questions directed at host artist and/or other guests
Dialogue: crit opens to include conversations initiated by host, reviews comments and questions, host may ask specific questions
Each crit is hosted by one artist in their studio (or alternate venue). Integral to the concept is that the host provides a meal*. Before each crit, there is a one-hour buffer period for guests to arrive, munch, and mingle. Any guests not wanting to or unable to participate in the buffer period may arrive minutes before the crit begins. The crit follows a strict 75 minute period and the host artist must clearly declare the end so guests who may want to leave after the crit can do so. The artist will have selected a second location nearby and guests who wish to join will relocate. Others may join us at the second location.
Each crit is invite-only and the group changes based on who the host artist invites. There will be a contact book of previous attendees and interested folks for the host to include, and each host will expand this database by inviting new people. Those in the database may join at the second location. This is an opportunity to continue discussing themes that came up in the crit or to discuss other people’s practices and what’s going on in the studio.
